A combination of biofilm growth measurements and standard biodegradabilitymeasurements were used to evaluate the effectiveness of six pilot disinfection processes to produce biologically stable water from the Kensico Reservoir in New York State. Three of the pilot processes studied included primary chlorination, ozonation, and chlorine dioxide. The other three processes studied include the aforementioned primary chlorination, ozonation, and chlorine dioxide all followed by secondary chlorination. In addition, the raw Kensico Reservoir source water and a New York City distribution sample were also studied. Includes figures.
