The purpose of this research was to investigate the implications of increased turbulence during the mixing of the disinfectant into the flow stream for inactivation of Cryptosporidium parvum. Static mixers were investigated for this purpose. Static mixers are being increasingly used in water treatment plants. Historically, static mixers have been used in the chemical industry. Currently, approximately 10% of water treatment plants in the United States are using static mixers. Monolayer cell culture infectivity tests were performed to measure the effectiveness of the disinfectant applied with each static mixer. Includes 9 references, figures.
