Full Description

The objective of this study was to show that the atrazine adsorption capacity of powdered activated carbon (PAC) was less than measured in batch tests when PAC is held in place and exposed to continuous input of NOM, and to quantify the capacity reduction. Batch tests were conducted to show that the adsorbed atrazine molecules were displaced by the strongly adsorbing natural organic matter (NOM). A bench scale PAC microfiltration system was used to evaluate the adorption capacity for atrazine at the presence of NOM under a continuous flow condition. The capacities obtained from this system were compared with those obtained from conventional bottle-point isotherm tests.
