On August 6, 1997, the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) issued guidelines for alternative monitoring, formerly known as permanent monitoring relief. This article describes these guidelines, including: sampling waivers allowed for chronic contaminants; surrogate sampling points; reduced nitrate sampling; and, state adoption and USEPA approval of alternative monitoring. The article also provides a list of chronic chemical contaminants for which USEPA's alternative monitoring guidelines apply. Includes 3 references. Product Details
