The overall health of the Willamette River is slightly better than marginal. The health of the river in the future is dependant on action taken today: it can be maintained or improved with active effort, or it can be allowed to decline. That issue was addressed in the Willamette River Basin Water Quality Study. The five year project adapted established study methods and water quality models and applied them to a major river system. It was funded and carried out by a combination of agencies and stakeholders. The study discussed how the river's health was evaluated and what further work is needed. Includes 5 references, tables, figures.
