Continued improvements in optical and remote sensing technology, coupled with ever-increasing computing power, are rapidly increasing the number of remote water quality monitoring approaches available. This paper describes the latest developments in the Remote Electro-Optical Sensor (REOS-3) system, designed and developed by Biospherical Instruments, Inc. and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, to meet the need for continuous unattended monitoring of water quality in open reservoirs.
