Full Description

Last summer, massive flooding once again challenged the ingenuity of drinking water system managers, this time with flash flooding that swept through Georgia and cut off water to more than 300,000 people. Hardest hit was Macon, where 150,000 people were without potable water for three weeks. In small rural communities such as Newton (population 750), the flood's effects stretched on for months. Newton did not fully recover from the devastating flooding until March 1995.
