A 5-ton gas-engine heat pump (GHP) was commercialized in September 1987, opening a new field of small-size gas air-conditioning.
This paper describes the development of the 5-ton GHP, the system specifications, key features of the system, how to get reliability from automotive engines and compressors that are used for the essential parts of the GHP, and installation and operation after commercialization.
