The importance of the three-dimensional (3-D) nature of heat flow from basements and slabs shown. A procedure is developed for using a two-dimensional (2-D) simulation to closely approximate the full three-dimensional effects of heat transfer from rectangular basements and slabs. The procedure can be applied to other numerical procedures that use a two-dimensional method for computing earth contact heat flux.
