Full Description

Senior level HVAC classes typically cover basic air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, starting with a simple ideal vapor compression cycle and possibly later accounting for coilpressure drops and compressor characteristics. These calculations have traditionally been performed by hand, not because of their simplicity, but largely because of the difficulty in programming the physical properties of the refrigerant. Refrigerant property algorithms have been available in the literature for over 15 years but in a format identical to that found tables of properties. This program uses those "exact" property algorithms as a basis for which to define a thermodynamic state given any pair of known properties (P, T, v, h, s, x). This program, written in BASIC, can be used in its present interactive form to replace tables of properties or can be easily modified to use in system modelso It is appropriate for use in HVAC technical elective courses as well as in introductory thermodynamics courses.
