A computer program that analyzes four different refrigeration cycles is described. The user-friendly, menu-driven, interactive program has been implemented on a microcomputer. Cycle components are modeled and actual effects, such as pressure drops, subcooling, superheating, and compressor volumetric efficiency, are included. Refrigerant properties are calculated by the program so the effects of varying cycle parameters may be quickly assessed. First Law and Second Law analyses are performed, and all mass and energy flows and component irreversibilities are calculated. Cycle schematics are displayed on the screen, and hardcopy output can be obtained. The program is used in an undergraduate course on refrigeration and air conditioning to enhance a studentâs understanding of refrigeration cycles.
