All nuclear power stations in Japan are located at the seacoast, and Japan is a country with frequent earthquakes. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account the need for a salt-resistant and aseismic design for plant HVAC facilities. This paper shows results of the salt-removal efficiency tests of some outdoor air intake filters and a seismic test of a centrifugal chiller unit.
The design of air distribution ducts is important, especially in a large room, to obtain effective heat removal and ventilation. This paper also presents test results and examples of current practice in ducting systems for some BWR plants on drywell (inside primary containment) and refueling areas.
