Different compressor requirements are imposed by the various transportation equipment in the refrigeration field, such as containers, trucks, trailers, and railroad reefers and in the air conditioning of intercity and transit buses. Various drive and control schemes, along with different methods of capacity control, impose different types of loads on the running gear and operating temperature loads of the compressors.
The applications of transportation compressors that will be addressed here are those applied to refrigerated shipboard containers, trucks and trailers, and the air conditioning of transit and intercity buses. Each application has its own requirements and imposes different conditions of operation.
