The present document defines the stage 2 service description for a GSM/EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN).ITU-T Recommendation I.130 describes a three-stage method for characterisation of telecommunication services, andCCITT Q.65 defines stage 2 of the method.The present document illustrates how the services requested by a GSM/UMTS Core Network are realized by theGERAN.
The main focus of the present document is on functionality related to the Iu interfaces. The aim of the present documentis not to describe functionality related to the A and Gb interfaces in details. There is no detailed description of theinterfaces towards the core network and only references are given to the appropriate specifications.
